25 August 2011 THE Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) is confident the national team will do well at this weekend’s International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) Africa motocross championship at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare, Zimbabwe. ZMSA president, Marco Comana said in an interview yesterday that despite the withdrawal of five riders from the squad through injury and logistics, he was optimistic Zambia would put up a good fight in the individual category. Comana was only worried about the team category where he felt Zambia may struggle because of the failure to field a minimum of three riders per class due to unavailability of riders or lack of resources. Zambia, who finished third at last year’s championship in South Africa, will field one rider each in the MX1, 125cc, 85cc and 50cc classes and five in the MX2 class that has Brandon Reed, Dale Holliday, Justin Barrett, Kyle Bohling and Wesley Irwin. “We missed second position by a whisker last year because two of our riders were badly injured in the first race and those injuries were not caused by the riders but by situation on the side of the organisers. “There are two new classes this year, the 125cc and the ladies class. We have one lady in the ladies as well as in most of the other classes which is a disadvantage for us because we need at least three riders to score good points in the team category,” he said. Comana said Zambia would be counting on the skill of Mkushi based Dima Fircks who has just returned from a three months training programme in the United Kingdom and 85cc rider Bradley Lionnet of Kitwe. “We are going to try out best under the circumstances and I am sure we will perform well in the individual category especially in the 125cc where Dima Fircks has a good chance getting a good position,” he said. The rest of the riders making the 10-member team are Shamus McCahey (MX1), Davin Cocker (50cc) and Jenna Bohling (ladies class). Those ruled out are Nicholas Comana (MX1), Sheldon Holloway (MX2), Munashe Tsindikidzo (125cc), Leah Heygate and her brother Scott (85cc). Be the first to Write a Comment !
