MMD Lusaka Provincial Chairman William Banda has been charged for proposing violence in Chongwe district prior to the general elections. In this matter Mr Banda faces one count of proposing violence. Particulars of the offence are that on 3rd September, Mr Banda unlawfully incited MMD cadres to beat and chase PF cadres. Meanwhile, state prosecutors have made an application to have the case heard in Chongwe, where the incidence happened. But defence lawyers, Amos Malipenga and Sunday Nkonde, have objected to the application saying Mr Banda resides in Lusaka. Mr Banda, who was arrested on Tuesday, has been granted bail in the sum of 60 million kwacha with 2 working sureties. He has also pleaded not guilty and the matter comes up for trial on 2nd, 3rd and 4th November 2011.
