Government’s decision to allow vendors to trade on the streets has given rise to a sanitation challenge. The lack of toilets has resulted in some vendors using opaque beer packs to answer the call of nature. The Lusaka City Council has since warned vendors of serious action. Council public relations officer, Henry Kapata clarifies that besides the increased garbage on the streets some vendors are creating a public nuisance by using beer packs as toilets. He says council workers are having difficulties to clean the streets as they have to handle human waste.
