12 August 2011 THE Unified Party for Democracy and Development (UPDD), a break away from United Party for National Development has the said the opposition will only contest in parliamentary and local government elections. UPDD chancellor Felix Senka said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the party will contest the presidential election in 2016 when it establishes itself firmly on the ground. Mr Senka said the members were free to support any presidential candidate of their choice because the party was not interested in forming a pact with other parties. He, however, said the party would contest parliamentary and local government seats in Mufilira, Mazabuka’s Chikankanta constituency and Luapula province. Mr Senka who is contesting the Chikankanta seat said the adoption list for the party would be released on next week on Monday. He said the party’s priorities after being elected would be forming local parliaments to allow the grassroots people to interact with the parliamentarians. Mr Senka said doing so would help to hold parliamentarians accountable. Be the first to Write a Comment !
